About Us

We met while we were both students at Penn State, Kiera as an undergraduate business major and Michael as a biology graduate student. Over time, our friendship grew into love, and we were married in 2001. Kiera is an outgoing "people person" and she enjoys working out, scrapbooking, and doing crafts, but being a mom is her biggest priority. Kiera stays at home with Alaina, Brett, and Reid and cherishes every day. She volunteers in Alaina's and Brett's classrooms and takes the boys to kids' gym classes and swim lessons. Kiera and Michael LOVE to travel and have visited Washington, DC, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and the Grand Canyon this year. Michael loves the nightly routine of bath time, reading together, and tucking the kids into bed. He loves to hike, play sports, and watch movies. Michael competes in triathlons and obstacle races. He loves when Alaina can join him for the kids' races. Michael also earned his black belt in Tang Soo Do. We are very active!

Our home / Our pets

We spent the last year planning, and building our dream home. It is a 6 bedroom house complete with a large playroom, game room, home gym, and media room. We have a large yard where we will plant our lawn and flowers, and of course, put in a jungle gym. All the kids have their own bedroom and the new nursery is a suite with a walk-in closet and a full bathroom. We can't wait to decorate it! We have an amazing, family-friendly neighborhood. There are lots of kids in our development and parks nearby. We live in a rural environment but we are less than 10 minutes from the city. Alaina's bus picks her up at the end of our driveway. The elementary school is only 5 minutes from our house. The school system is wonderful and we believe we will be giving our children the best education possible. We also have a very energetic Standard Poodle named Amelia. She and the kids tire each other out! She loves to run and go to doggie daycare and parks!

Our extended family

Family is a central part of who we are. After completing Michael's medical training, we chose to relocate to Pennsylvania to be close to Michael and Kiera's families. Michael's mom and stepfather (Grandma and Grandpa) live only a few minutes away. We also live very close to Michael's dad and stepmother (Pop and Gramma) as well as his sister and her family. Many weeks we have Sunday dinner together as a family. Kiera's family is just a little farther away but still within easy driving distance. We celebrate holidays with our extended family. We spend New Year's with Pop and Gramma. Easter is often at Grandma and Grandpa's house. The Thanksgiving venue changes each year. Christmas Eve is at Michael's sister's home but Christmas Day is always at our house. We think it is important to be in our own home so that we can see what Santa has brought. We do a lot of baking to prepare for the holiday. Christmas dinner is always special and we have a great time!
What Led Us To Adoption
Our journey to parenthood became more difficult than we had expected. As we were both committed to the idea of sharing our love with children, we sought the assistance of an infertility specialist. We felt very blessed when our daughter, Alaina, was born. Being parents brought us happiness and laughter. Our hearts yearned for another child to add to our family. However, during our attempts to conceive again, it became clear that it would not be possible to have another biological child. Our thoughts turned to adoption, and we were blessed to adopt Brett from his biological parents, Angel and Carl. Brett has been a wonderful addition to our family. Only 14 months later we were contacted by our adoption agency that Angel wanted us to adopt her next baby. What a wonderful surprise that was! We were so honored that she thought we were doing such a great job raising Brett. We said, "Yes!" and so Reid joined our family. We are now looking to complete our family with another baby!
